Kailash Mansarovar

The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, organized by Global Adventure, offers a spiritually enriching journey to one of the most sacred destinations in the world. Situated in Tibet, Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar hold deep religious significance for Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and followers of Bon.

The yatra typically spans two to three weeks and includes a combination of trekking and driving through remote and challenging terrains. Participants begin their journey in Kathmandu, Nepal, with initial sightseeing and acclimatization. The route continues through Kerung, Saga, and finally to Lake Mansarovar, where pilgrims can take a holy dip believed to cleanse sins and lead to spiritual liberation.

Following this, the trek around Mount Kailash, known as the Kora, is a demanding yet spiritually rewarding experience. It covers diverse landscapes, from vast grasslands to steep mountain passes, offering breathtaking views and opportunities for deep reflection and prayer.

Despite the physical challenges posed by high altitudes and harsh weather, the yatra draws people from various cultural and religious backgrounds, fostering a sense of unity and shared spiritual pursuit. Responsible tourism practices are encouraged to minimize the environmental impact on this fragile ecosystem.

Syabrubeshi is around 170 kilometers north of Kathmandu and is a tiny town that shares a border with Kyirong in Tibet/China. From your starting point, the scenic trip across the country to Syabrubeshi will take around 8 hours. On the route to Syabrubeshi, you’ll stop for lunch, and once you get there, you’ll spend the night in a guesthouse or hotel.

As soon as you leave your hotel in the morning, you’ll make the short journey to the “Friendship Bridge” between Nepal and China. After completing immigration procedures, you will
travel to Kyirong valley via the Friendship Bridge.

It’s about a four-hour trip from Kyriong to Saga, the first Tibetan town you’ll reach. Saga lies on the banks of the Brahmaputra River, which has its source in Mount Kailash. Starting in Kailash, the river travels through Lhasa before plunging down to the plain of Asam.

We intend to stay an extra day in Saga to allow our bodies to acclimatize to the higher altitude, which will allow us to go to higher elevations in a way that is both safe and comfortable.
You’ll have the day off, so put it to good use by seeing everything the surrounding region has to offer you.

Today’s long travel requires an early departure. Explore holy Lake Mansarovar in the afternoon. Tibetan herders reside in Old Dzongba near Mansarovar. Drive to Paryang from historic Dzongba across high mountains and plains. West from Paryang after lunch at the Horchu River security checkpoint. Two hours to Mansarovar. Depending on weather and arrival time, holy bathing and puja may be done today or tomorrow, g uide, group manager, and tour leader decides. We’ll drive to Chiugompa at evening and clockwise circle the lake.

Following breakfast, you will embark on a trip that will take you to Darchen, your overnight location and the beginning point for several hikes in the area surrounding Mount Kailash. It is situated at the foot of Mount Kailash and may be reached by traveling 35 kilometers from Lake Manasarovar. Excellent place to repose with breathtaking perspectives of Nandi
Parvat and Mount Kailash.

Today marks the beginning of your pilgrimage around the holy Mount Kailash. You’ll start your journey to Diraphuk from Yama Dwar, where you’ll meet your porter, horses, and yaks. Yama Dwar is the ideal vantage point for viewing Mount Kailash’s south and west sides. The first day’s hike (from Yama Dwar to Diraphuk) is roughly 10 kilometers and takes about 5 to 7 hours. The hike up to Diraphuk is rather easy, with just a slight incline the whole way; yet, due to the high altitude, it is not uncommon to feel tired. The final half an hour of the trek is the most challenging due to the steep ascent. Diraphuk is located 4,920 meters above sea level. Just a few thousand meters distant lies Mount Kailash’s northern slopes. You can’t get a better look at the north face than from here. Those who choose not to participate in the Parikrama trek will instead go to Darchen, where they will spend two days waiting for the rest of the group to return from their circumnavigation. A basic guideline, “ENTRY TOGETHER AND EXIT TOGETHER,” must be followed at all times in China.

The journey’s climax is today. At 5 in the morning, you’ll leave Dhiraphuk for the 22- kilometer hike over the harsh highlands to Zutulphuk. After around two hours of trekking, the route from Diraphuk flattens out and begins mildly ascending. Half of the walk is at a height of 4,900 meters (16,000 feet) or higher, so be prepared for mild dyspnea and maybe a headache. Because of this, the event will go at a relaxed pace. After a four-hour hike, you’ll reach Dolma La pass, 5,630m above sea level, a beautiful high pass decorated with Tibetan prayer flags. This peak marks the pinnacle of this heavenly journey. Upon descending gradually from this pass, you will see a little glacial lake off to your right. Here we have “Gauri Kunda.” Mata Parvati, one of Lord Shiva’s consorts, is mentioned in the mythology surrounding this lake.

This holy circumambulation ends today. You’ll pack up and go to Darchen, a 3-hour flat trek, in the morning. Your vehicle will be waiting at Darchen, and the group that did not undertake the parikrama will join you. We’ll cross the Mayum La pass, military roadblock, Paryang, sand- dunes, and Saga in the evening. A picnic meal will follow the Mayum La Pass.

After breakfast, we gather our bags and travel to Kyirong bridge. Today, we’ll travel around 155 kilometers to reach Kyirong town, and from there, another 22 kilometers will take us to the Kyirong bridge. We will clear immigration, then travel into Nepal and drive to Syabru Beshi.

We will leave for Kathmandu in the morning after breakfast and arrive there about 7-8 hours later. You may relax in the evening in the comfort of your Kathmandu hotel.

Our personnel or agent will be available to assist you with your departure. According to your flight schedules, you will be driven to the airport and given warm farewells.

International flights need check-in at the airport to be completed at least three hours before departure.
